“Of course it was written with a pen,” Tong Sui said. “So I can join the research institute now, right?”
The knowledge structure of the original owner, combined with his intensive cramming during this time, made this test paper easy for him.
Xie Guohong was at a loss for words.
Tong Sui continued, “Director Xie isn’t having second thoughts, is he?”
After a moment of silence, Xie Guohong remembered Tong Sui’s earlier demeanor and said, “This is just the basics; there’s still a practical test.”
He led Tong Sui in front of a group of zombies.
Xie Guohong was convinced Tong Sui wouldn’t dare to step inside.
He then took out a syringe. “Go in and draw a vial of blood.”
Although the zombies had all their teeth and nails removed, they were still inherently dangerous.
Usually, they used high-voltage electricity to weaken the zombies before putting on specialized protective gear to enter.
However, Xie Guohong did not intend to provide him with any of that equipment.
Seeing him stand still, Xie Guohong asked, “What’s wrong? Don’t you dare go in?”
Tong Sui took the syringe. “Does this mean once I complete this, you’ll let me into the research institute?”
“Of course,” Xie Guohong replied, “but if anything happens to you, I’m not responsible.”
Tong Sui opened the syringe package.
Xie Guohong took a few steps back, positioning himself by the door, ensuring his own safety should anything go wrong.
Tong Sui approached the glass door.
The zombies opened their mouths, making hissing sounds, greedily gaping as if they longed to break through the glass and swallow him whole.
The system prompted: [Host, are you really going in? This is too dangerous!]
“Yes.”
If his special ability was psychic, he should be able to control these zombies.
A glint of red light flashed in Tong Sui’s eyes.
Suddenly, the agitated zombies behind the glass became eerily calm, standing there in a daze.
Xie Guohong’s eyes widened in astonishment.
He then saw the zombies obediently stepping back until their backs hit the wall, appearing like wild hyenas that had suddenly been tamed into house dogs.
Xie Guohong rubbed his eyes.
How could this be possible?!
Tong Sui’s eyes darkened slightly.
If psychic abilities could affect zombies, what about regular humans?
He turned his head.
Xie Guohong trembled, gripping the doorknob as fear replaced his previous bravado. “What did you do to those zombies?”
Tong Sui’s pupils narrowed.
A flash of red light crossed, and Xie Guohong felt as if his heart and soul were instantly captured.
The scene before him reversed dramatically; he saw the zombies breaking through the glass cage, rushing toward him.
The teeth and nails that had been removed grew back entirely.
“Ahhh!!!”
Xie Guohong swung his arms, collapsing to the floor in a panic. “Don’t come over! Help! Someone, save me!”
Tong Sui stood before him.
Everything around them was silent except for his cries for help.
Xie Guohong covered his neck, an agonizing pain making his face pale as countless zombies tore at him.
As Tong Sui had anticipated, the psychic control affected not just the zombies but humans too.
Just when Xie Guohong thought he would turn into a zombie himself, Tong Sui closed his eyes. When he opened them again, his pupils returned to their normal black.
“Director Xie, are you okay?”
Tong Sui reached out to help him.
Xie Guohong quickly recoiled, his face ashen and trembling. “Don’t come over! Stay away!”
Tong Sui asked, “What’s wrong with you all of a sudden?”
Xie Guohong looked around in disbelief, trying to process the normalcy of the situation.
Was everything that had just happened an illusion?
Tong Sui smiled slightly. “I was just about to go in to draw blood.”
Xie Guohong shuddered, seeming to remember the pain. “No need, no need!”
“Really? Wouldn’t that be considered cheating?” Tong Sui questioned. “I think it’s better to follow the normal procedure.”
“I was wrong; the assessment didn’t include this,” Xie Guohong quickly replied. “You’ve passed the test, and you can start work tomorrow.”
Tong Sui put down the syringe. “Thank you very much.”
“Duo duo duo.”
The communicator in Xie Guohong’s pocket rang.
After a moment, he shakily took it out and, upon seeing the number, answered respectfully.
“Director Lou, please go ahead.”
Lou Yeling said, “The institute will arrange a position for a young man named Tong Sui to come work.”
“Oh… okay,” Xie Guohong suddenly realized. “Wait, did you just say that person’s name?”
“Tong Sui,” Lou Yeling answered.
Xie Guohong recalled the name on the test paper. “…”
After hanging up the communicator, he looked at Tong Sui with a much friendlier expression. “So you are Tong Sui! Why didn’t you mention your connection to Director Lou earlier? It would have cleared up so many misunderstandings.”
Tong Sui said, “I don’t know the person you’re talking about.”
He paused a moment.
The director Lou mentioned should be Lou Yeling.
Did Jiang Hua say something to him?
After leaving the research institute, Tong Sui walked back to his apartment.
Standing at the door, just as he reached for the handle.
The door opened from the inside.
Jiang Hua asked, “Where have you been?”
There was a note of anxiety in his voice.
His light blue eyes locked onto Tong Sui, scanning him from head to toe. Not seeing any injuries eased the deep lines in his brow.
“I went to the research institute,” Tong Sui said. “Did you help me get in through the back door?”
Jiang Hua asked, “Do you mind?”
“Not at all,” Tong Sui took a step forward, looking into his eyes. “But why are you being so nice to me?”
